Guest Decider Pick: “Make Like A Tree”
I book a lot of commercials. A lot. In fact, they call me the Matt McCarthy of commercials. Most of the time however, I have nothing but contempt for the product I’m hawking. That’s how good of an actor I am. But this one actually touched me. We shot it last fall though it’s about to start airing again. I was honored to help a good cause by accepting below scale pay for the day.
Guest Decider Pick: “Dog Day Morning”
My girlfriend made this video with Rory Scovel and Sean Patton a while back. I never liked it, her, or them–it’s cool, they know–but she seems to think it’s one of the best things she’s ever done. And it looks like at least 34 people on YouTube agree with her. Hear that, sweetie? That’s only 6 less than 40. Just like you! Also, Sean and Rory are funny guys who are doing really well…I’m so happy for them.

Each Friday, ComedySmack will now be featuring a “Guest Decider.” A comedian, comedy writer, blogger, producer or other comedy luminary who will pick THEIR favorite funny stuff for the day. This week’s “Guest Decider,” Sean Crespo is a very famous stand-up comedian, an extremely famous writer, and a super, super famous classically trained actor. (He is not the guy on Psych, however.) To wit, he’s the head writer for humor site Drink at Work, and the creator and star of the wicked popular video series No Prior Knowledge for Bravo’s Television Without Pity. He was a founding cast member and writer for the acclaimed morning show satire Wake Up World the brainchild of Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, and he can currently be seen at Luca Lounge every Thursday at 9pm with co-host Dan Wilbur at Lasers in the Jungle, the best free comedy show in a bar ever.
Guest Decider’s Live Comedy Pick: “PUNCH UP YOUR LIFE”
It’s no LASERS IN THE JUNGLE, but what is? Yet every week Joe DeRosa and Jared Logan have the audacity to put on a comedy show in an AIDS charity bookstore, and somehow, it works out to be one of the best shows in the city. The back and forth between Joe & Jared alone is worth the paltry $3 cover, and they book consistently great acts on top of that. In fact, the only complaint I’ve ever heard is that there isn’t enough Sean Crespo. I’m sure they’re working on that. Tues., 8:30, Housing Works Bookstore.
