Best In Show: This Week’s Live Comedy
by shap on September 14, 2011. [B-Roll,Shows,Sketch / Improv,Smack,Stand Up,Web Shorts]

In this new section, we’ll profile some of the best comedy shows happening in the city over the next week. That way you won’t just show up at the Bronx Chuckle Hutch because you didn’t know what else was out there.
With the Upright Citizen Brigade Theatre’s new East Village location opening last week, there’s now an extremely convenient venue for comedy in NYC. But even if you don’t live down the block from it like me, it looks like it will soon be a frequent destination for all NYC comedy nerds. At least judging by the initial schedule.
So here is what’s on tap in the coming days at the UCB East (aka “The Beast”) and elsewhere…
TOTALLY J/K
Thursday night Joe Mande and Noah Garfinkel host their long-running standup show, Totally J/K, with a great lineup including John Mulaney (SNL), Julian McCullough (Comedy Central), Heather Lawless (Variety Shac), and Gabe Delahaye (Videogum).
Details: Totally J/K @ UCB East (153 E. 3rd St. at Ave A), Thurs. Sep. 15th, 9pm ($5)
Make reservations here.
Here’s John Mulaney’s SNL bit about Girl Scout Cookies:
THE 30/30 CLUB
Friday night at The PIT, veteran sketch writer/performers Aaron Glaser and Lee Rubenstein (hosts of Get Loose) appear on this edition of Glaser’s 30/30 Club, the rare show where comics get to do a full half hour of material. With guest host Danny Jolles.
Details: The 30/30 Club @ The PIT (123 E. 24th St) on Friday, Sep. 16 at 10pm ($5)
Make reservations here.
Here’s Aaron Glaser in “Cocaine”:
IF YOU BUILD IT
Next up on the great-shows-now-at-UCB East list, Kara Klenk and Nick Turner’s If You Build It debuts its first show at the new location this Saturday night. Guests include Janeane Garofalo, Dan Soder, Sheng Wang, Damien Lemon and dirty song songstress Shayna Ferm.
Details: If You Build It @ UCB East (153 E. 3rd St. at Ave A), Sat. Sep. 17th, 8:30pm ($10)
Make reservations here.
Here’s Janeane Garofalo on (kind of) being recognized:
“I HATE BEING SINGLE” (Screening)
The first two episodes of a new series by Rob Michael Hugel, which I hear is hilarious, premiere next week at the New York Television Festival. Rob was one of the main collaborator’s on Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson’s wildly popular web series Broad City, so you should expect big things. The show follows a newly dumped man (Hugel) who is forced to adjust to life as a single-ready-to-mingle Brooklynite.
Details: I Hate Being Single screens…
