Stag Nation

Jamie Greenberg, a lifelong New Yorker and entertainment professional, has a long list of credits. He has been a co-writer and co-producer on multiple MTV shows, a co-correspondent on Court TV and was the co-creator of a popular PBS kids cartoon. In fact, the only things he hasn’t been the co-creator of are any children or marriages.
Jamie is the perfect example of the modern day “Stag,” a sociological phenomenon that Urban Dictionary defines as, “single men who stay 25 until they’re 50 – indefinitely putting off settling down; and frequently engage in the mechanism of reproduction – but never reproduce. Spotted in cities – especially in proximity to nightlife.”
Jamie’s Stag-nation, so to speak, is what inspired him to write and direct the new comedy, Stags, premiering Friday, June 24th at the Visionfest Film Festival at Tribeca Cinemas. The feature-length comedy, about a close-knit clique of male friends, explores themes such as friends getting hitched, faltering career ambitions and “complicated” pseudo-relationships, all against the backdrop of NYC.
With a cast of top notch comedians (Jesse Joyce, Kimmy Gatewood, Anne Carr), Stags is shaping up to be this summer’s must-see independent comedy. But with critics already lavishing praise, could it also be the male gender’s answer to Sex and the City? Or, even better, this decade’s answer to Swingers?
Here’s the trailer. Check it out Friday or keep an eye out in your local listings.
