A Toast To Green Lantern
by shap on June 10, 2011. [Film,Smack Channels,Web Shorts]
Back in 2003 when Ben Affleck’s blind spandexed crusader film Daredevil came out, critics and fans widely declared that the superhero genre had jumped the shark. Eight years later, and with at least five major superhero movies hitting theatres in Summer 2011 alone, Hollywood might beg to differ. But then, considering that almost all of these offerings look pathetic, critics and fans might beg to re-differ: thus putting the ball back in Hollywood’s court to fight that differ beggery with yet another begging for differing.
This short, from Frog Island Flicks, takes on Hollywood’s obsessive drive to churn out comic book movies, quality of the hero be damned. Green Lantern, in theaters next week, looks cringeworthy. But there’s always worse on the horizon…
