In this video, Matt Zaller talks to the director (Paul Feig) and cast members (Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper) of the new comedy Bridesmaids about the comedy industry’s long standing discrimination against male comedians. After all, for every Jerry Seinfeld out there, there are a dozen more male comics hitting up the open mic circuit because they can’t even get a simple primetime sitcom on a broadcast network. Is that really so much to ask in 2011? Watch to learn more about this terrible plight.
Bridesmaids opens nationwide today. Produced by Judd Apatow and starring/co-written by SNL‘s Kristen Wiig, the film is already being touted as a female-centric answer to The Hangover. Or maybe it should just stand on its own? Comparison free? After all, early feedback on the film has been stellar. So until Hollywood starts finally greenlighting more male-driven projects, check out this hard hitting expose…then check out Bridesmaids in theaters.
