Last week, the five official candidates for the Republican presidential nomination locked horns at a debate in South Carolina. Unfortunately, no one besides the Ron Paul fan club (Rand Paul and counting) and the Tim Pawlenty fan club (zero and counting) cared.

Fortunately, this past Saturday the unofficial heavyweight contenders for the GOP nomination met on the field of battle in New Hampshire. Much to Rep. Michele Bachmann‘s confusion, it was not the Lexington and Concord field of battle.

Nevertheless, Bachmann (Kristen Wiig), Newt Gingrich (Bobby Moynihan), Mitt Romney (Jason Sudeikis), Jimmy McMillan (Kenan Thompson) and (lastest but not leastest) ex-Gov. Sarah Palin (Tina Fey) and ex-Birther Donald Trump (Darrell Hammond) all showed up.

Though we have yet to see this crew face off outside of Studio 8H, this may be the first time ever an SNL sketch isn’t even slightly as outrageous as the real thing…

Vive la Election 2012!
